Mohn’s Hill E.C. Church Adult Ministries
What is Stephen Ministry?
The Stephen Ministry is a worldwide care ministry that trains leaders who then train individuals within a congregation to give care and help individuals get through life’s difficult transitions. Their home office is in St. Louis, Missouri. The ministry began in 1975 and now is represented in 12,000 congregations from more than 160 Christian denominations, in all 50 states, 10 Canadian provinces, and 24 other countries. More than 65,000 pastors, church staff, and laypeople have been trained as Stephen Leaders to train care givers known as Stephen Ministers. More than one-and-a-half million people have received care from a trained Stephen Minister. For more background information on the Stephen Ministry organization please see www.stephenministries.org
At Mohn’s Hill Church, the Stephen Ministry is composed of a team of seven people who are trained and commissioned by the leadership of the church to provide care for people who are experiencing difficulties or transitions in life. Some of the life situations where Stephen Ministers can help people to transition to the next phase of their lives are
- you’ve moved to a new city or town and don’t know anyone.
- you find out that your spouse wants a divorce.
- the funeral, when everyone has left and your new reality sets in.
- the doctor gives you bad news that you are terminally ill.
- the nursing home director says, “Welcome to your new home.”
- someone you love and care for has just been imprisoned.
- your last child at home is leaving “the nest”.
- your baby arrives and the transition to parenthood is overwhelming.
- you’ve finally retired, but you feel like your purpose for living is gone.
This is a sample of situations where a Stephen minister can walk alongside another person and help them to come through their difficult transitions with victory.
If you are facing any of these or any other life transitions or challenges, and would like to connect with a Stephen Minister who can assist you in moving through your difficult time, please contact the church at 610-775-3667 or e-mail Sandy Artz at Email Sandy to schedule an interview.
You do not have to be a member of the congregation to receive care.

Everything from politics to prayer will be featured at a new weekly experience called Lifetree Café.
This “conversation café” is part of a national network of locations that offer participatory events related to life and faith.
The Lifetree Café experience is a scheduled hour of “stories and conversations to feed the soul.” The hour typically includes a short original film and guided conversation. A local host directs the hour. “It’s sort of like a live, local talk show—with an inspirational twist.”
National Lifetree Café founder Thom Schultz said, “We engage people of all ages in a national conversation through local Lifetree Cafés as well as a robust online presence.” The organization’s website, LifetreeCafe.com, invites visitors to participate online in the same topical conversations that occur each week at the live venues.
“Lifetree serves as a comfortable place to meet other people who are interested in the same issues.” Schultz said, “The atmosphere resembles a warm, neighborhood coffee shop. The experience gives people practical help and insight on life issues, and provides a hopeful spiritual connection.”
Schultz said, “We’ve found that people today want to participate in the conversation. It’s not enough to simply hear someone lecture on an important topic. People want to share their thoughts, ask questions, and tell their own stories. Lifetree offers a safe place and time to do that.”
Admission to the 60-minute events is free. Snacks and beverages are available.
The people at Mohn’s Hill Church love the people in their surrounding communities. God directed us to ask the leaders of Adamstown how we might help them. They responded by asking us if we could help them with their community events. Adamstown is a community that has three major events each year and the people at Mohn’s Hill offer their time and service to make these events successful. For more information about specific events please see “Happenings”.
